The special steel manufacturing sector calls, and Carer answers: here’s how the company, a leading producer of electric forklifts, has successfully met the needs of a top industrial excellence of Made in Italy.

Trafilspec-ITS is a true continental pillar in the special and cold-worked steel sector. With a long history and ownership passed down from father to son—the Ricco family—it remains a major player continually investing in cutting-edge technologies. Trafilspec is at the heart of a significant modernization process, driven by three key principles: decarbonization, sustainability, and efficiency. As a producer of cold-worked special steels, Trafilspec-ITS serves industries such as bearings, tools, and precision mechanics. The efficient handling of products, which include steel bars and coils, is highly challenging and involves both outdoor operations—primarily loading and unloading goods—and indoor needs for inventory management. This varied logistics demand versatile solutions, aligning with Trafilspec's commitment to innovation and impact reduction.

Unique needs, unique solutions


Until 2011, Trafilspec-ITS operated with an entirely internal combustion fleet. Over the past decade, the company has increasingly shifted towards electric solutions. Today, their facilities operate with a mixed fleet of about 30 trucks, 10 of which are Carer forklifts. What sets them apart are the specific customizations, such as the so-called "nose" or rod for wire rods. This engineering adjustment is ideal for effectively positioning at the center of the massive coils in which the steel wires are wound.

A completely different application, yet with the same approach, occurs outdoors. Trafilspec-ITS technicians had traditionally used conventional solutions for unloading raw materials from containers. This workflow has been significantly optimized with the introduction of two "specialists" in container handling: the KF 70 HD2 and KR 50 HD2. These models leverage their low-profile design as a key advantage, and with the addition of an external platform, the company has moved away from the previous practice that required two operators to manually tow the material.
