Carer and the Azzurri: former Renate player Ferrari scores for the National team
Every now and then, it is nice to celebrate our successes outside the world of handling: in a recent friendly match of the Italian national team with San Marino, Gian Marco Ferrari scored in his debut match. A couple years ago, Ferrari played for Renate, a team with a thirty-year partnership with Carer.
It is the thirteenth minute at the Castellani Stadium in Empoli when, on a corner kicked by Federico Chiesa, Gian Marco Ferrari leaps further than the San Marino defenders to score with a header his first goal for the Italian national team, after less than a quarter of a hour with the “Azzurro” jersey. Ferrari’s scoring debut in an 8-0 win over San Marino also bore a bit of Carer’s history.
The 25-year-old defender, born in Parma, played his part in last year’s promotion campaign for Crotone, as well as in this year’s campaign, as Crotone came from behind to incredibly avoid relegation. Ferrari’s career, previously, had seen the colours of Renate, a football team with a long-standing, three-decade, partnership with Carer. He played in thirty matches for the team between 2011 and 2013, scoring once against Alessandria.
Renate were founded in 1947 and have been owned by Carer ever since the 1986/87 season, when Luigi Spreafico joined Giancarlo Citterio at the club’s presidency. From that moment on, the history of the club has seen success and steady growth: Renate were promoted to Eccellenza (6th division) in 1999, then in Serie D (5th division) in 2005, playing their first promotion play-offs in 2009. Promotion to the 4th division took place on August 4th, 2010, and in 2014 the club was admitted to Lega Pro, the third division of the Italian championship.
In the 2016/17 season, Renate defended the colours of a small town in Brianza of just over four thousand inhabitants in the third national division, reaching a half-of-the-table placement which allowed the team to play in the promotion play-offs. Next year Renate will keep playing in the third division with the support of Carer and the pride of having contributed to the launch of a young prospect in the National team.
