Luigi e Luca Spreafico: 10 years at the leadership of Carer
January 16, 2023 marked the 10th anniversary of the Spreafico family’s entry into the leadership of the Italian market-leading electric forklift manufacturing company.
From 1976, the year Carer was founded, to 2023 there have been several moments that have made the history of the company based in Cotignola, in the province of Ravenna, the undisputed market leader in the production of electric forklifts in Italy.
But undoubtedly, the most significant of these dates back to exactly ten years ago, when in January 2013 the Spreafico family - through the figures of Luigi and Luca - took over the brand from the previous management.
Ten years for the incoming management to integrate very quickly into the existing business ecosystem and set ambitious goals and strategy based on three cornerstones: continuous investment in research and development, expansion of service provision, and diversification of offerings. The latter has been made possible through the engineering of electric trucks of ever-increasing capacity, in order to compete in the large and challenging large-tonnage handling market, where a zero-emission alternative enjoys an absolute competitive advantage.
ONE DIRECTION, ONE GOAL
"Beyond some initial critical issues, joining Carer allowed us to restore a prestigious brand, which already enjoyed international notoriety," says Luca Spreafico, Vice-President and Owner, who adds a relevant detail about this decade of success. "After 2015, the creation of the A-line enabled us the path of product development that determined Carer's positioning for years to come." The first years of "Spreafico management" also helped to strengthen ties with suppliers and the customer base: "With the contribution of the whole team, we managed to create authority around the brand, strengthening bonds of trust with the supply chain that the previous situation had challenged." Management operations that opened up countless possibilities in the second five-year period of this time frame, in which experimentation and innovation were the major goals pursued by the entire organization. Time has proven the worth of investments in R&D: "Many of the innovations we introduced first are now engineering standards for the entire industry: in this Carer has been able to play a pioneering role."
TWO WORLDS MEETING
Product, but not only: the experience of the Spreafico family, distributors of Yale forklifts in Italy with Unicar since 1992, has helped develop a customer and service-oriented mindset. "It was the meeting of two worlds," Spreafico reaffirms, "to a product culture like the one we found in Carer, we were able to bring know-how in fields such as pre-sales and after-sales, commercial distribution and customer service."
Having defined the path, the goal remains clear, reveals the Vice President: "We aim, in the short and medium term, to double production volumes and manufacturing infrastructure, while firmly maintaining the continuous work of innovation, research and customization to create competitiveness."
