Carer for the Italian Air Force: precision and compactness with KF 90 HD²

But in order to best understand how Carer managed to complete this project, we need first to look deeper into the specific needs of the Air Force when it comes to handling air cargo.

Handling and military facilities and the Carer-branded solution

The Air Force's first need was to equip itself with a machine capable of lifting 10,000 pounds (just over 4.5 t). This weight corresponds to the maximum weight of a single ULD (unit load device), an aircraft load unit that usually consists of aircraft pallets. Another very important requirement for the Air Force was to have a vehicle with a maximum elevation capability of 5.05 m: this standard height corresponds to the load threshold of a Boeing.

Carer Forklift's KF 90 HD² perfectly matches these needs, thanks to a maximum capacity higher than the required one and the ability to handle loads safely, through its electrohydraulic roller platform, anti-collision sensors and proximity cameras. The forks allow to easily reach the aircraft stores with precision and autonomy. Morevoer, the joystick controls facilitate the operator's driving tasks. ULDs move into the hangars on special roller tracks, from which the forklift driver can pick up loads and place them on the aircraft. The compactness of the KF 90 HD² is sheer added value: not only hangars and outdoor applications, but also the capability to operate directly in containers - an often very common need in the military field. The two independent wheel drive motors ensure zero emissions and enable the contractor to adopt green solutions, increasingly required also in the defence industry. Two trucks are currently in operation and work every day, to support the National Armed Force's full funcionality.
